Martin Cooper is an American engineer and pioneer in wireless communication. He invented the first portable hand held police radio system for the Chicago PD in 1967,  In 1973, he introduced the first hand held cell p honestly which he developed for Motorola. His first call on it was made to his competitor at Bell Labs.  The phone was nicknamed “the brick” or “the shoe.”  It weighted 2 1/2 pounds and was 10 inches long.  It took ten hours to charge for thirty minutes of talk time.
