He invented the first portable hand held police radio system for the Chicago PD in 1967, In 1973, he introduced the first hand held cell p honestly which he developed for Motorola. His first call on it was made to his competitor at Bell Labs. The phone was nicknamed “the brick” or “the shoe.” It weighted 2 1/2 pounds and was 10 inches long. It took ten hours to charge for thirty minutes of talk time.
